City bans unsightly promotions

OUTDOOR advertisements such as flags, banners, balloons and posters will be banned within the Outer Ring Road next year, the city government announced on its Website yesterday.

Anyone displaying outdoor advertisements without permission will be fined 5,000 yuan (US$735) to 50,000 yuan, according to the regulations.

Those who wish to display banners and balloons for big events within the Inner Ring Road should apply to the Shanghai Greenery and Public Sanitation Bureau for permission. Otherwise the advertisements will be dismantled.
