City cleans up during holiday

THE city's 147 parks received 5.2 million visitors during the week-long National Day holiday.

Last Sunday was the peak day for local parks, which received 843,000 visitors.

Between September 30 and Wednesday this week, Shanghai disposed of 105,769 tons of rubbish with 15,110 tons cleared per day. All the rubbish was collected in time to ensure a clean environment for the World Expo and key business areas, said the Shanghai Greenery and Public Sanitation Bureau.

The bureau also said that local urban management officials punished some 3,200 individuals and businesses during the National Day holiday. Officials shut off 6,800 unlicensed stalls and confiscated around 18,600 counterfeit Expo products.
