City gets ready with flood-control projects
SHANGHAI has been preparing for the coming flood season, officials said yesterday.
Commonly flooded areas across the city, including Dalian Road and Julu Road, have been renovated with 4,136 meters of drainage pipe replaced, said Zhang Jiayi, director of the Shanghai Water Authority. This year 4,293 kilometers of pipes have been dredged with 66,000 cubic meters of mud cleared before the flood season.
Zhang said that more efforts would be carried out to prevent flooding in residential areas and more than 8,000 construction sites across the city.
