Mineral Water Supply Beneath Our Feet
SHANGHAI has a large mineral water supply underground but it's strictly used and supervised, the city's land-use planning authority said yesterday.
Investigation shows there is drinkable mineral water 170 meters below ground, which could supply 13 million cubic meters of water annually, officials said.
But the government will only allow 500,000 to 600,000 cubic meters to be removed each year to preserve the supply and avoid land subsidence. About 20 million cubic meters is pumped back underground to help stop land subsidence from urban development, officials said
