People told to stay indoors due to foul air
Shanghai's air quality is lightly polluted today as a cold air mass from the north meets the mist over the city, according to the Shanghai Environmental Monitoring Center.
The center warned elderly people, children and those with respiratory problems to avoid going out and taking proper protection this morning.
The city is expected to have good air quality, the second highest of a five-level rating system, tomorrow.
The center's real-time monitoring data also showed that the city's PM10 index, a measure of airborne particle matters over 10 micrometers in diameter, started to rise in the wee hours this morning and reached a peak at 10am. The density of this major air pollutant dropped quickly in the afternoon.
