鈥楺uiet鈥 pile driver introduced
SHANGHAI’S major construction company have started to use a new pile driving machine for the highway constructions to cut noise and pollution.
The new machine, the world’s largest at 80 tons, emits no more noise than a car, according to the Shanghai Mechanized Construction Group. It will be promoted for all road and bridge construction sites in the city to reduce noise and dust pollution.
Pile driving is an essential process for nearly all construction projects. The traditional pile driving machine normally produces noises over 100 decibels.
It is now being used at the under-construction S3 Expressway yesterday which will the downtown and suburb Fengxian District. The machine named 70RF is imported from Netherlands.
“The machine reduces noise and vibration by firstly liquefying the soil by high frequency vibration and then hammering the pile into the land,” said Huang Yi, the vice president of the group.
The machine will be applied to the construction site of Beiheng Passage next month to reduce the impacts of the city’s major traffic infrastructure construction project to the residents and pedestrians along the passage, the group said.
It will be firstly applied to an elevated road project on Tianmu Road, which is one of the most difficult parts of the Beiheng passage because the road has busy traffic, many constructions and residents living around, Huang said.
