Residents win noise complaint

RESIDENTS in central Lujiazui area may wake to a peaceful morning today as Pudong New Area traffic authorities relocated two bus routes yesterday after receiving many complaints about noise.

"We will visit the area (today) to evaluate the situation," said Tang Chunhua, an official with the Pudong New Area Urban Transportation Office.

Two bus routes were moved to the terminal near Yanlord Community on Puming Road earlier this year, causing congestion as it already served six other bus routes.

"Buses always blocked the station's exit and other drivers tooted their horns to find a way through," said a woman resident surnamed Fang. She said residents were awakened by horns about 6am everyday and many people planned to move out.

After consulting with traffic police, the urban transportation office moved the two bus routes to Dongchang Road to make room for the other six.

"I promise that no bus lines will be added to the terminal on Puming Road in the future," Tang said.

He also said that existing routes may be adjusted when construction of other bus terminals is completed on nearby Shangcheng Road and Weifang Road.
