Richard J. L. Yorke

Yorke is highly regarded for his outstanding leadership that has helped turn Shanghai into a financial services center. He is the youngest leader of the China business in HSBC's history. He helps set up the Shanghai-based HSBC Bank (China) in 2007. In June, his company became the first China-incorporated foreign bank to issue yuan bonds in Hong Kong.


Klaus Toepfer

German

Former under secretary general of the United Nations and a guest professor at Tongji University

The city government has bestowed the honor on Toepfer for his substantial and committed contributions to enhancing cooperation and technical exchanges between the United Nations Environment Program and Tongji University. He has also helped with Shanghai's environmental protection efforts, including a donation of one million yuan (US$146,460) to set up the Klaus Toepfer Environmental Scholarship. It aids university students majoring in environmental engineering. He acts as an environmental consultant to the city government and was one of the people who recommended support for Shanghai to compete for the UN Champions of the Earth Award for 2010.

Barton recommended and fostered the movement of McKinsey's regional headquarters from Australia to Shanghai in 2003. He is recognized for maintaining cooperation with the municipal government and encouraging local talent.

Lecture Professor

Jiang has set up a non-profit voice-study lab in cooperation with the hospital to introduce world best practice therapy and appliances to the city and has nurtured Chinese medical scholars.

HE gave up his career in Belgium to found a Shanghai research and production center for highly popular bromeliad flowers. Bromeliads were mostly imported but are now raised in China, and, thanks to Messiaen, their prices have been halved.

TSCHIRKY'S devotion saw the Roche R&D Center set up in Pudong's Zhangjiang High-Tech Park in 2004. It has had more than 40 intellectual property rights registered globally. Shanghai college scholarships are also granted.

Buswell improved research into edible fungi in Shanghai and enhanced exchanges with overseas institutions. With his help, Chinese researchers have won opportunities to attend top international forums and have findings published in leading journals.
