Expat children learn Chinese culture through play
MORE than 500 students and teachers from local foreign schools gathered in the Shanghai Community International School today for the "Traditional Chinese Cultural Festival on Campus" activity.
These young expatriates tried their hand at making Chinese folk arts and took part in traditional Chinese games, such as shuttlecock kicking and kite flying. They also shared the stage with Chinese opera performers.
The Shanghai Education Commission plans to organize similar events in the city's 32 international schools in an effort to introduce Chinese culture to foreign children and promote Chinese language learning.
There are 24,946 students in the 32 international schools, including seven Japanese and Korean education centers and five local schools with international departments.
