10cm nail successfully removed from man's body
A construction worker had a 10-centimeter nail removed from his body after he was accidentally shot in the back with a nail gun, hospital officials said today.
Doctors at Shanghai No. 10 People's Hospital removed the nail, which was lodged completely inside the man's body, hospital officials said.
The worker, identified by the surname Zhao, was only 1 meter from the nail gun when he was shot although doctors said they didn't know how it happened. The nail was only 1 millimeter from his aorta and 2 millimeters from his spiral cord. If the nail reached either, Zhao could have died at the scene, doctors said.
Doctors removed the nail successfully without damaging nearby blood vessels and nerves.
Zhao was recovering well and would likely return to work soon, according to hospital officials.
