2,052 clinics shut down
LOCAL health inspectors said yesterday that they cracked down on 2,052 illegal hospitals and medical clinics in 2012, confiscating over 7.15 million yuan (US$1.15 million), about 3,300 boxes of medicines and over 39,000 pieces of medical equipment.
Inspectors said 102 people were detained. About 90 percent of the illegal facilities were doing internal medicine and treating mouth diseases. Officials saw illegal medical practices decrease downtown last year, but more sprouted in rural areas.
