3 more local H7N9 flu patients recover
ANOTHER three patients were discharged from the Shanghai Public Health Clinical Center yesterday after recovering from the H7N9 avian flu - making a total of eight who have recovered from the disease in the city, local health officials said.
Twelve patients infected with the virus were still being treated in the center yesterday. Three of them were in critical condition, center officials said. Eleven of the 33 cases reported in the city died, officials reported.
The three men released yesterday were aged 54, 67 and 68. They received antiviral therapies at the center after they were diagnosed with the H7N9 avian flu. All of them tested H7N9-negative twice after treatment and the disappearance of their flu symptoms, officials said.
Hospital officials said they will continue to check their health in follow-up visits.
Of the three, a 54-year-old man surnamed Song, a Jiangxi Province native, was hospitalized on April 8 with a fever. Song was diagnosed with pneumonia on April 12 and the next day, he tested H7N9-positive.
A 67-year-old man surnamed Li, a local resident, had fever and body aches on March 29 and was diagnosed with pneumonia the next day. Li tested H7N9-positive on April 7.
The third man, surnamed Tang, 68, a local resident, had flu symptoms on April 4 and he didn't improve after taking cold medicine. Tang was found to be infected with the virus on April 10.
"I was very nervous when I was diagnosed with H7N9 avian flu," said Li. "After medical treatment, I gradually recovered. I'm grateful to the doctors."
Last Thursday, a 66-year-old man was discharged from the center after recovering from the H7N9 avian flu.
The retired man had flu symptoms on March 31 and went to Shanghai No. 10 People's Hospital on April 2, where he was diagnosed with an upper respiratory tract infection.
He went to the hospital again on April 4 as his condition didn't improve, and he was diagnosed with pneumonia. On April 6, he was tested positive for the H7N9 virus by the Shanghai Center for Disease Control and Prevention.
The man got antiviral therapies. Gradually his condition began to improve. He was tested H7N9-negative and his flu symptoms were gone last Tuesday.
Meanwhile, a 68-year-old man surnamed Yang tested H7N9 positive in Shanghai yesterday afternoon after he was transferred to the city from a hospital in Liyang, Jiangsu Province.
