City's cord blood bank leads nation in transplants, storage

SHANGHAI Cord Bank said it fulfilled 700 umbilical cord blood transplants since being established 10 years ago.
The bank is the national leader in storage and completed transplants.
The bank's public section has some 20,000 samples for patients with leukemia and immunological diseases to potentially use if they find a match.
Both the match rate and usage rate of cord blood are rising in recent years due to the growing sample amounts. So far, 100 percent of patients have been able to find samples matching four DNA points, 84 percent for five DNA points and 26 percent for all six points, officials said.
