Community hospital GP services accepted by 2.1 million local residents

ABOUT 2.1 million Shanghai residents in 770,000 homes have signed with community hospitals for general physician services after the city introduced the practice to make it convenient for patients to see doctors and make better use of limited medical resources.

To popularize the practice, Shanghai adopted a policy asking residents to sign an agreement with their community hospital for general physician services at discount rates and community hospitals will arrange their visits to specialists in senior hospitals if their disease is complicated.

So far, 122 community hospitals in 10 districts have started offering general physician services, said the Shanghai Health Bureau
