ECNU cooperates with Israeli university, district govt and hi-tech park for science research program

EAST China Normal University yesterday signed a cooperation agreement with University of Haifa in Israel, Minhang District government and a local hi-tech industrial development zone on its ECNU-UH Joint Translational Science & Technology Research Institute program, the university said.

The institute will be later placed in Zizhu Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone in Minhang District and first start researches on fields including ecological and environmental engineering, biological basis and pharmaceutical engineering, neuro and brain sciences and data science. It also aims to become a base for cultivating creative and skilled elite talents for China and Israel.

The programs is expected to attract brilliant master and PhD students and have all the four parties train them jointly. And the advanced translational scientific technologies from Israel will also be introduced to this program.

This collaboration will prompt the cultural contact between Shanghai and its sister city Haifa and the higher education of the two countries as well.

Chen Qun, president of East China Normal University, addressed the welcome and gratitude to all participants. "ECNU and UH got to know each other in April 2014 and have co-established Shanghai-Haifa international research center just one year later," Chen said. "Now we are preparing for setting up a much bigger platform."

Chen said he is confident about the institute's future and think with the joint efforts of the parties, more miracle will come into being in the future.

David Faraggi, rector of University of Haifa, said he hope that there will be great benefit, great partnership and great friendship formed between faculties. "More faculties will meet each other, know each other, become good friend and good collaborators."

He said their trust in each other will contribute to the program's continuous development.
