Exercise streets open next month
FOUR pedestrian roads designed for residents to exercise on in Luwan District will open next month, Shanghai Morning Post reported today.
The exercise roads will be in Yanzhong, Huaihai, Limeng and Nanyuan parks.
Only one third of residents in Shanghai have a walk of more than 10,000 steps a day, and senior people walk more than middle- or primary-school students in general, according to a survey in Luwan and Minhang District this year.
According to international standard, men should have a daily walk of more than 13,000 steps and women should do at least 11,000 steps. Only 11.1 percent boys and 5.3 percent girls can meet the standard, which is far behind Sweden and other countries.
