Hospital trips aim to help kids get over fears

FUDAN University's Children's Hospital is the first in the country to offer kids who are not patients a chance to visit and learn about the work of medics.

Hospital officials said the initiative aims to show children how the hospital and its medical services are run.

They hope this will help children get over any fears of hospitals and doctors.

Children between eight and 12 can apply for the trips through the hospital's weibo microblog account and its website at

"We also welcome expat children living in Shanghai to visit our hospital," said Dr Xu Hong, who has introduced the scheme from foreign hospitals.

In another initiative to improve services and communications with patients, the hospital is launching a special consulting service from 9:30am to 11:30am from Monday to Saturday at its reception desk.

Patients and their families can approach the desk with any questions and complaints.
