International school students struck down by illness
MORE than 10 students at an international school in Pudong became ill yesterday, suffering from vomiting and stomach pains, a local newspaper reported today.
The students are from grade one at the Shanghai Pinghe Bilingual School, the Oriental Morning Post reported.
The students took ill after lunch yesterday and went to the school clinic which could not find a cause.
While some parents believe the illness might have been caused by food from the school canteen, the school suggests it might be fatigue with many of the first grade students having just returned from abroad after Spring Festival holidays, which may have weakened their immune systems, headmaster Ren said.
The school has isolated the ill boarding students and disinfected classrooms and dormitories.
The city food and drug supervision department is investigating.
