Leg-slimming methods have serious side effects

LOCAL doctors are warning beauty-seekers of the risks of leg slimming using food packaging film or leg liposuction surgery at unlicensed clinics because these methods may cause serious problems.
Some beauty hospitals said they received a rising number of patients with skin complications after they tried the two slimming methods. As weather gets cold, many young women want to slim their fatty legs for boots.
Doctors at Shanghai Tida Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery Hospital said the number of dermatitis patients rose 50 percent recently. Most of them got skin complications after trying the packaging film method.
Dr Luo Donghui of the dermatology department said some students wrap their legs with packaging film so tightly every day that they developed skin allergy and heat rash.
"The slimming method with packaging film is quite old," Luo said. "Though it can accelerate sweating on legs, it also accelerates skin aging because the skin is soaked in sweat all the time."
He recommends proper diet, exercise and massage to slim down fatty legs.
