Nanofibre clothes are warmer and bacteria-resistant

Get a winter outfit made of nanofibre-woven fabric to keep yourself warm in what is likely the coldest season in years.

Donghua University scientists have successfully applied nanotechnology in fabric making in a government-funded research project.

Clothes made of nanofibre fabric are warmer and more comfortable than those made of ordinary fabrics.

Meanwhile, socks and clothes woven with silver nanofibres are bacteria-resistant and can bring relief to people with smelly feet and odorous armpits.

The university researchers managed to impregnate silver nanofibres into textile materials rather than coating them on the surface to make the effects of nanotechnology last longer.

"The technology is among the most advanced for similar products in the world," said Ye Yongmao, deputy president of China Chemical Fibers Association.

Fabrics made by local scientists are cheaper than overseas products and have been put into mass production, university officials said yesterday.
