Operation of first inter-province medical cards starts

PATIENTS from Dongtai of Jiangsu Province will be able to use their own medical smart cards for direct payments at Shanghai No.10 People's Hospital, officials announced today.
Previously, patients from other provinces had to pay medical bill by cash while receiving treatment in Shanghai, which has better medical facilities, and apply for reimbursement after returning to their home towns. This situation was caused by medical smart cards not being connected among different provinces.
Based on the improvement of information technology and concerns about the rising number of patients streaming in from other provinces, local hospitals have started offering convenient service to patients and direct account settlements for out-of-town patients.
