Pesticide use to be cut

THE Shanghai Agricultural Commission said yesterday it has set a target to cut by half the amount of chemical pesticides used in the production of green vegetables.
The move comes amid growing calls from consumers for better food safety and the need to curb the pollution of the city’s farmlands. A range of new technologies will be applied to replace traditional pest-control methods, the commission said.
