Plastic surgery for Jiangxi girl
A 16-YEAR-OLD girl from east China’s Jiangxi Province underwent surgery at a hospital for burn scars due to the efforts of a Shanghai resident.
The girl, nicknamed Qing Qing, suffered burns in an accident at the age of one. She has been carrying the scars since then.
A top student at the rural Shangtang Middle School in Nancheng Town in Jiangxi, she scored the town’s highest marks during the high school entrance exam last month.
She has been living with her grandparents since childhood as both her parents are away in cities for work.
Chen Guihe, a local resident, said he heard about the school from a friend who is a Jiangxi native. He, along with his friends, set up a fund to help the poor and needy students with excellent academic performance.
It was then they came across Qing and learnt about the scars on her body.
“She was struck by flames in the kitchen. It left a deep psychological scar on her mind,” Chen said.
Chen contacted Shanghai Time Plastic Surgery Hospital which agreed to waive the fees.
Doctors said she will receive surgeries on the cheek, mouth and nose and undergo laser therapy on the face. The entire process could last for two to three years and most of the surgeries will be done during her winter and summer holidays.
