Poor health woes of white collars

The health of local white collars is deteriorating with the survey carried out by Shanghai Foreign Service, one of the leading human resources agencies, showing abnormal data during last year’s health checkup.

The survey found 94 percent of white collar worker in the city struggling with poor health. The number was up by 12 percent from 2009.

The survey sampled the health checkup results of 76,500 people and found overweight and internal secretion diseases are major problems for both male and female workers.

Fatty liver, high cholesterol and high uric acid top the list of male workers.  About 46 percent of male workers have fatty liver.

Hyperplasia of breast is the top health concern for female workers, which is as high as 78 percent. Thyroid and overweight are the other major areas of concern for female employees.

Medical experts said the abnormal data of office workers are mainly related to diet, unhealthy schedule and mental status.

The intake of highly fatty food, static lifestyle devoid of any sort of physical exercises, and stress are contributed to the damning health report.
