Program spotlights 5 million Chinese who suffer from rheumatoid arthritis
ABOUT 5 million people suffer from rheumatoid arthritis in the nation, and 59 percent of them say the chronic disease has brought pressure to their work or working ability, local experts said today.
Nearly half of RA patients, 47 percent, say the autoimmune disease that causes painful joints has caused serious negative impacts to their mood, the experts told a program to spotlight the condition. The program was meant to promote knowledge of RA treatment through a collection of photographs from RA patients and those who care about them.
The program, which kicked off in Shanghai today, will collect photos from RA patients in major cities like Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou and Wuhan until September. A show will be launched in Beijing in October to record the life and mood of patients.
Dr. Lu Liangjing from Renji Hospital said patients should follow doctors’ advice, maintain a healthy lifestyle and try to keep a positive mood. RA needs long-term and regular treatment, Lu said.
