Pudong hospital chosen by CFE to serve French expats

SHANGHAI East Hospital became the first hospital in China to be recognized by the French health care system to offer basic health insurance services for French nationals living in China.

From now on, French expatriates living in China and covered by CFE (Caisse des Francais de l'Etranger), a French government-funded organization to handle the French expatriates' social security needs, will be able to receive medical services in the hospital without paying the bill, which is to be handled by CFE and the hospital.

Unlike other health insurances, CFE offers coverage to the entire family if one family member participates.

Shanghai East Hospital in Pudong's Lujiazui area signed the cooperation agreement with CEF today.

About 5,400 French families are living in China and up to 70 percent of them are in Shanghai. The figure is a 40 percent increase from five years ago.
