THE state-owned Shanghai Clinical Research Center today signed an agreement with the US-based Quintiles, the world's largest bio-pharmaceutical services provider, to set up a joint venture lab to boost new drug development in China.
Chronic diseases common among elderly people will be a focus of research at the new laboratory in Shanghai, said Qunintiles, which will invest US$14 million in its China headquarters and local lab in the Fenglin Life Science Park in Xuhui District and hire about 450 employees in the next five years.
In addition to developing new drugs, the lab will also tap the potentials of traditional Chinese medicine in pharmaceutical research and development.
