Scientists use electrotherapy to boost body’s healing response time

MEDICAL scientists are using electrotherapy to speed up the body’s healing response time in hopes of finding a new way to treat chronic diseases.

The human body has the ability to heal itself after being injured. For example, minor cuts usually heal within seven days. The healing process starts when nerves send signals to the brain. It then sends out its own signals so muscle and skin tissues grow back.

With chronic diseases, nerves don’t send a signal to the brain because they don’t recognize it as something wrong. This leads to a patient’s condition deteriorating slowly over the long term.

Based on this, scientists are testing an electrotherapy device called Bioboosti, which is made in the United States, as a way of helping patients with hypertension. The device emits a signal to the brain in order to kick-start the healing procedure faster.

The device has been tested by Fudan University and approved by the Shanghai Food and Drug Administration.
