Shots for tots are in the works
SWINE flu inoculation for children between six months and 35 months is under discussion in the city, the Shanghai Health Bureau said yesterday.
That follows an announcement by the nation's Ministry of Health last week, and repeated yesterday, to give that age group priority for the vaccines.
So far, about 2 million vulnerable people have been inoculated for swine flu or seasonal flu, the Shanghai Health Bureau said.
Meantime, the authorities announced plans for an extensive health survey to study the scope of swine flu and effectiveness of the vaccines.
Shanghai will study 13,500 local people in three groups in January, March and August. The groups of 4,500 people will be selected from the city's eight districts and Chongming County, in turn.
The survey will end in early September and be reported to the China Center for Disease Control and Prevention.
