What Is Forest Encephalitis?

THE viral infection is caused by the tick-borne encephalitis virus, which usually has an incubation period of between seven and 14 days.

The final stages of the illness result in coma and almost certain death.

People with recreational or occupational exposure to bushland or rural settings, such as hunters, forest workers and farmers, were most at risk from forest ticks.

Punan Hospital doctors said travelers should also be aware of the risks and use insect repellents and wear protective clothing to avert tick bites.
