Woman hopes Alba face-lift gets boyfriend back
A 21-YEAR-OLD woman in Shanghai wants to win back her ex-boyfriend by getting plastic surgery to turn herself into his favorite American television and film actress, Jessica Alba.
Unable to afford the operations, however, the woman has posted her wish and her photo at a major domestic online bulletin board in search of a free makeover by any medical institution willing to help her.
The Shanghai Time Plastic Surgery Hospital has contacted her and met her last week.
Liu Qi, a hospital official, said the Hubei Province native, who works at a Website company in Shanghai, needed eyebrow lifting, eyelid reshaping and nose reconstruction to look like Alba.
But the hospital won't do the surgery in a hurry. Doctors want to make sure she is prepared for the risks she might face in surgery, and for life afterward, including people's attitude towards her.
"There's no worry about the expense and it is technically practicable," Liu said, "but the face-lift is irreversible and we hope that she would take it seriously."
"I have made my decision," the woman, who identified herself as Xiaoqing, told Shanghai Daily by telephone yesterday.
"I'm not only doing it for my ex-boyfriend but for myself. I am a psychologically weak person. I want to do something to challenge myself and build a strong personality through it," she said.
The woman said she will think about the surgery carefully and discuss it with her mother after she returns to her hometown for the Spring Festival next month.
"I will go to the hospital after I come back and do a deep discussion with experts. I am serious," she said.
The woman met her ex-boyfriend, seven years older than her, a year ago.
The man was a huge fan of Alba, with photos of the star at his home and even on his mobile phone.
The man demanded Xiaoqing wear makeup as Alba does, even during her sleep, though it harmed her skin.
Her Christmas gift last year was an Alba-styled blond wig and he asked her to wear it all day long from then on.
Wearing dense makeup and the wig, she was laughed at by passers-by when hanging out with the man on the weekend following Christmas.
She threw the wig and the fake eyelashes on the ground and proposed a breakup, which the man immediately accepted without hesitation.
She was disappointed and missed the man intensely.
"It was heartbreaking after splitting with him and I even asked for one-week leave from the company," Xiaoqing said.
"I love him very much. The boyfriend gave me a feeling like a family," she said.
"That's why I always followed his opinions. I don't want to lose him."
