1,024 Traffic Deaths In 2009
SHANGHAI traffic police said yesterday that 1,024 people died last year in 2,831 traffic accidents.
The deaths decreased by 6.9 percent compared with 2008, when 1,100 perished. Police also reported 2,702 injuries in accidents last year. Ignoring signal lights was cited in the most deaths, 206. Drunk driving caused 47 deaths, compared with 42 in 2008.
