30 injured after bus strikes pillar

MORE than 30 people were injured yesterday morning when a bus crashed into a concrete pillar supporting an elevated section of Metro Line 6 in Shanghai's Pudong New Area, following an incident with a motorcycle.

The Shanghai Pudong International Container Terminals Limited vehicle carrying about 30 staff is reported to have lost control at around 7am while giving way to a motorcycle on the Yanggao Road N. The driver had to be cut out of the wreckage by firefighters and was said to be in a serious condition. A woman on the back of the motorcycle suffered a fractured foot. Many bus passengers were asleep at the time and were seriously injured, a passenger said. Police are investigating. Metro services were not affected.
