Airport boost for electric cars

TO encourage more people to drive electric vehicles to the city’s two airports, the government is establishing 1,500 charging facilities, a senior official said yesterday.
Shanghai Airport Authority plans to set up the charging points at 10 percent of the parking lots at both Hongqiao and Pudong international airports, with the first batch of 100 being installed this year.
The authority is also cutting power consumption and pollution emissions by switching to electric and hybrid vehicles at the airports. This includes hundreds of aircraft guiding vehicles and shuttle buses, said authority president Jing Yiming.
The authority will also launch electric car rental services for passengers at the P1 and P2 parking areas at Pudong airport, Jing said.
The authority aims to further cut energy consumption by using solar energy, recycling water and installing energy-saving LED lamps at the two airports.
Despite traffic increasing to over 100 million passengers per year, energy consumption at the two airports was reduced by 10 percent in 2015 over the previous year, Jing told Shanghai Daily.
