Another dry but cloudy day on cards

TODAY will be cloudy with a high temperature of 11 degrees Celsius and a low of 6 degrees, the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau said yesterday.

Tomorrow there will be rain in some areas of the city, but the mercury is expected to rise to 13 degrees.

The showers will continue until Tuesday, forecasters said.

Today’s air quality should be much better than yesterday, when the air quality index peaked at 229 about noon. That figure should fall to between 65 and 90 today.

The main pollutants yesterday were PM2.5 particles, the city’s environmental authority said.

In parts of Putuo and Qingpu districts, the density of PM2.5 particles rose to 200 micrograms per cubic meter, exactly eight times the World Health Organization’s safe level of 25 micrograms per cubic meter.

Much of the pollution was blown into the city from northwest regions of the country, the meteorological bureau said.
