Aviation theme park in trial opening

THE city's first aviation theme park opened to the public as part of a trial operation yesterday at the former 2010 Shanghai World Expo site in the Pudong New Area, with major attractions including a Boeing 747 aircraft now being reassembled, aviation simulators and various aircraft models.

The Aviator Theme Park, covering 30,000 square meters near the former USA Pavilion in Zone C, will open to the public next month with an admission price of about 100 yuan (US$16).

The official opening will be around October, when a retired Boeing 747 plane will be turned into a club at the park's square. The plane, bought from logistics giant UPS, was dismantled and shipped to Shanghai in 85 containers.

Some professional aviation simulators have opened to the public.

Engineers will also reassemble some small aircraft in a warehouse where the public can see the process of airplane assembly.
