Big discounts for Japan trips
TRAVEL agencies will offer big discounts for Japan-bound tour packages at the annual World Travel Fair, which kicked off in Shanghai yesterday and runs until Sunday.
The Japanese government said yesterday that after the massive temblor and tsunami in March, tourist numbers from China to Japan have been cut by half compared to the same period last year.
Some agencies, such as Shanghai Airlines International Travel Service Co Ltd and Ctrip.com, China's leading online travel service platform, will offer discounts of up to 30 percent on package tours to Japan.
"We hope that more people will realize that most areas of Japan are safe," said Katsuaki Suzuki, executive chief of the Japan National Tourism Organization Shanghai Office.
This year the WTF will be open to the public at the weekend, with big discounts on offer for travel packages.
