Bogus airport workers collaborate with unlicensed cabbies
SHANGHAI police and transport authority are investigating a spate of complaints from taxi customers who said they were cheated by Hongqiao Airport staff to take unlicensed taxies.
Initial investigations showed the so-called airport workers are actually employees of some local tour companies.
The police did not tell whether any suspects have been detained but said their investigation is still ongoing.
Some travelers complained that they were charged 200 yuan for a ride, double the normal rate, and the cabbies treated them rudely after they were led by "airport workers" to take taxies parked in the corners outside the terminal building.
The victims were mostly passengers new to the city.
