Bomb threat in moment of anger

A PASSENGER whose flight was canceled lost his temper when not given his own hotel room and claimed that he had a bomb, a court heard yesterday.

The suspect, surnamed Wang, was to fly with China Eastern Airlines from Pudong International Airport to Fuzhou Changle International Airport in Fujian Province on May 14, the Pudong New Area People’s Court heard.

But the flight was canceled and passengers were given hotel accommodation overnight.

Wang told the court yesterday that as he was carrying important items he wanted a room of his own.

He said that during a telephone conversation with a Chinese Eastern customer services representative he lost his temper and claimed that he had a bomb.

Police later undertook another round of security checks on passengers on the flight and the airport said this claim also delayed other flights.

Wang was detained for creating and spreading false rumors and charged with this offence.

No verdict was given yesterday.
