Bridge for Metro line spans river
A RAILWAY bridge to link suburban Jinshan District to downtown areas spanned the Huangpu River yesterday.
The bridge is a key element of the 56.4-kilometer-long Jinshan Railway Line - also known as Metro Line 22 - that will stretch from Shanghai South Railway Station to Jinshan New Town at city's south end.
The line will finally provide a Metro link to suburban Jinshan, a major gateway to neighboring Zhejiang Province and Hangzhou Bay.
The bridge is able to resist category-12 typhoons and 8.0-magnitude earthquakes, said its builder.
The nine-stop Jinshan route, which is expected to be operational by the end of the year, will take passengers downtown in 30 minutes. They will be able to transfer to Line 1 at Xinzhuang Station and Shanghai South Railway Station.
By 2015, the line should have 72 services a day running, said authorities.
