Bullet trains take over express route to Beijing
BULLET trains with sleeping compartments will replace all the daily Z trains between Shanghai and Beijing as early as April, cutting the travel time to 10 hours, the Shanghai Railway Administration announced.
The last three daily non-stop express Z trains between the two cities will be replaced by bullet trains from April 1.
The fare for the bullet trains will rise to 655 yuan (US$95.80) compared to the Z train's 478 yuan for an upper berth and a lower berth on the bullet trains will cost 730 yuan from the 499 yuan for a one-way trip.
Two of the non-stop trains from Shanghai to Beijing were replaced by bullet trains with sleeping compartments last December.
