Cab drivers from afar being sought
SHANGHAI is recruiting out-of-town cab drivers because of a long-term shortage caused by retirements and the refusal of young people to take the jobs.
About 250 cabbies from neighboring provinces have been working for about a month after training since April, said local taxi operators. The city now has about 50,000 cabs with 100,000 drivers. The recruiting effort was controversial because locals expressed concern that out-of-town cabbies were unfamiliar with the city and had difficulty communicating in the Shanghai dialect.
