Canteen food makes workers ill

A staff canteen at a furniture factory has been shut after more than 140 people fell ill as a result of food poisoning, Baoshan District authorities said yesterday.
The canteen at Taiyi Co Ltd prepared cold dishes improperly, which led to bacterial contamination, the Baoshan District Market Supervision and Management Bureau said after its initial investigation.
Workers began to experience symptoms including diarrhea and vomiting at 7:50pm on Wednesday. Twenty-one people were still being treated at the northern branch of Huashan Hospital yesterday, but were in stable condition.
An investigation and laboratory tests are underway.
