Chilly day on cards, but dry in parts

THE recent wet and cold weather is set to linger through today, though the gloomy conditions won’t be citywide, the meteorological bureau said yesterday.

Southern districts are likely to see the worst of the weather, while much of the remainder of the city will be overcast, but dry, forecasters said.

Temperatures will be similar to yesterday with a low of about 4 degrees Celsius and a high of 7 degrees, they said.

Things should get warmer over the weekend, when the high could hit the low teens. Tomorrow should also be dry, though there may be more rain on Sunday.

Next week will be mostly dry, though Monday and Tuesday will be cloudy, and the high temperatures will likely return to single digits, the bureau said.

Despite the slightly warmer outlook, Zhu Jiehua, a chief service officer at the meteorological bureau, said there remains the possibility of sleet or snow before March is out.

That said, today sees the start of the solar term known as jingzhe, which is generally marked by the arrival of warmer weather.
