City readies for big holiday rush
SHANGHAI traffic authorities are preparing for a big surge of travelers during the Mid-Autumn Festival this week and the National Day holiday from October 1 to 7.
Officials said there is enough capacity of buses, subways and taxis to keep holiday traffic smooth.
The city's five major taxi companies have organized 1,000 cars for booking under emergency. They also made arrangement to ensure enough cabs are available for Expo visitors.
Extra buses will be on standby nearby Metro stations to evacuate passengers in case of an emergency.
The Metro operator said that all their trains will be in service, the first time in history, as the passenger volume is expected to surpass 7 million during the holidays.
The city will also see a huge volume of travelers at railway stations and long-distance bus terminals. Extra trains and buses will be added during the holiday period.
