City to stop taxi booking apps from bypassing cab companies
TAXI booking app operators will be required by Shanghai traffic authorities to work with city taxi companies and dispatch centers after the booming third-party booking businesses took a huge chunk of markets away from the company centers.
Officials said the third-party apps also had led to disputes.
The transport and port administration, which is the industry watchdog, will release a taxi booking service management regulation shortly, officials said yesterday.
For now, passengers can still directly connect to cabbies who also install the apps and receive business bypassing the call centers.
Under the regulations, bookings done through apps, usually used by smartphone owners, will be linked to the taxi company call centers for dispatch.
