Clear skies ahead for weekend
THE smog covering the city for the past two days was blown away by winds from the East that arrived yesterday morning and the sky will be clear and sunny for the weekend with temperatures between 9 and 13 degrees Celsius.
The temperature will rise to a high of 18 on Monday, but a cold front is due to affect the city from Tuesday, bringing heavy rain and strong winds, said the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau.
Along with the cold front, pollutants will affect the city again early next week.
Shanghai issued a blue alert, the lowest of four levels, for heavy pollution early yesterday morning. The air quality index reached a high of 229 at 6am, but had largely cleared by 11am.
The Shanghai Environmental Monitoring Center said westerlies had blown in pollutants from inland.
