Clothes rack wins top prize
A CLOTHES rack which can also be a model of the Shanghai World Financial Center has won top prize in a competition to design city souvenirs.
Second and third prizes in the Shanghai Tourist Administration contest went to a package of matches in the shape of a group of skyscrapers in Lujiazui and a World Expo-themed T-shirt.
Almost 1,000 designs were submitted.
Three junior students at the Shanghai School of Design of the China Academy of Art came up with the clothes rack idea. When folded, it becomes a 10-centimeter model of the financial center.
"The design took us about a week," said Wang Yi, one of the designers.
Administration officials said they were considering recommending the second prize winner, the skyscraper matches, to hotels as gifts for Expo visitors.
Three souvenir companies signed contracts yesterday to produce the winning ideas.
