Cold air to drive away morning haze

A LIGHT to moderate haze is likely to hover over the city in the morning today but the influence of a cold air will drive it away in the afternoon, weather forecasters said yesterday.

Two weak cooler air is expected to flow into the city today and on Friday that will also result in a drop in temperature.

Today’s high will remain at 17 degrees Celsius but will drop by 1 degree tomorrow and on Friday. The lows will range between 8 and 9 degrees.

Weather authorities lifted the haze alert at 10:14am yesterday after southerly winds blew away the polluting particles and slightly cleared the air quality.

Both the AQI and the density of particles showed a downward trend, according to the Shanghai Environmental Monitoring Center.

But the air was still marked as heavily polluted — above 200 — by 9pm.

The overcast and partly cloudy skies will remain until Friday. The weekend promises to be a mix of sunny and cloudy.
