Colder air arrives with gusts and pollution haze

COLDER air from northern regions of China arrived this morning, bringing a slight decrease in temperatures and increasing gusty winds, forecasters said.

Shanghai's air quality is expected to dwindle due to air pollutants brought by the southbound cold air, which are mainly tiny PM2.5 particles and PM10 particles, according to the Shanghai Environmental Monitoring Center.

A slight haze is possible in part of the city before dusk today.

Lows in most areas ranged from 14 to 16 degrees Celsius early this morning. The lowest occured in Fengxian District, which recorded 12.4 degrees, while Baoshan District saw the low of 16.8 degrees Celsius, the highest of all districts.

It turned warmer at noon, when most districts recorded temperatures ranging between 21 and 22 degrees Celsius.

Such cooler conditions are forecast to last for another 2 to 3 days, through the weekend. A warmer high of 22 degrees is expected on Monday.

Skies will be mostly cloudy this week.
